I'm Still Here

I feel like I am always behind on my movie watching. Actually this is an aspect that I quiet like because it always gives me the opportunity to watch something new. There are so many movies made each year I would be shocked to find out the there are people out there that see everything each year and can say that they have seen every movie from every country in the world and that watching films has become boring to them. I first became interested in movie's as an art form, not just as a distraction from the day or as entertainment, when I was a junior in high-school. A friend at the time was super into film and aspired to be a director someday. I have always been writing and we used to get stoned and day dream about making films together. Or we would skip school, get stoned and go see Chicago or whatever was out at the time. It was early in the 2000's so there was a lot to see. I wish I could go back to those days. To suffice we ended our friendship a few years later.
I am a collector of dvd's and I will often buy a movie and then not watch it for months or years even. With Netflix coming all the time it has just gotten the best of me. Any how, I'm Still Here has been one of those neglected movies, which is ironic in itself because Joaquin Phoenix is one of my most loved actors in the industry. Perhaps I was jaded will watching, knowing that it was an artistic expression or satire if you will of the "reality television" plaguing the public broadcast system in recent years. Nonetheless I thought the film was absolutely amazing. Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix are great artists with the means to really make an impression on our society and even our culture. In conversations with other people I feel that this is not a general consensus.
